Dollars and Scents

Hey Scholars! I am currently obsessed with LAVANILA Laboratories Pure Vanilla set. My favorite cosmetic store is Sephora and here is where I buy my set of Pure Vanilla products. I usually buy the forty dollar gift set. The reason I enjoy buying the products as a set is because these products are on the pricey side. I enjoy these products because they are 100% healthy. They are free of Petrochemicals, Phthalates, Propylene glycol, Mineral oil, Silicones, Synthetic dyes, Sulfates, or Parabens.

Although I love the Vanilla products there are a number of other scents in the collection. Other scents include coconut, passion fruit  blackberry, grapefruit, lavender and lemon just to name a few; vanilla is alongside all of this scents, for example the coconut body wash is vanilla coconut body wash. All of these products are also 100% healthy and have organic and natural ingredients.
LAVANILA also have other products such as sunscreen (for the your face) deodorant, lip gloss, fragrance oils, candles, and products for babies. Included in the gift set that I buy is a 2-in-1 body wash that also acts as a shaving cream; a body butter, and a bottle of fragrance.

The Healthy Body Wash 2-in-1 Shower and Shave:

The body wash works into a nice lather. The scent is nice and pleasant. I like that it does not dry out my skin or leave it feeling like all my natural skin oils have been stripped. Included in the ingredients are various organic and natural oils that work with your skin's natural oils leaving your skin feeling amazing.

The Healthy Body Butter:

Although I am not crazy about the scent of this body butter it feels good and it lasts. A little does go a long way. My skin feels incredibly smooth after using the body butter. For best results use the body wash and follow up with this body butter. I have also noticed that it gives my skin a nice glow!

Fragrance:

I love this fragrance!!! It is not so strong that it is offensive or smell like I have been marinating in it to cover up funk. It is nice and light with a subtle, clean, sweet vanilla scent.

I have yet to try any of the other scents but when I do I will post reviews. I strongly recommend these products. Here are the links to find these products:

"Feel Your Face Pulsate" with the Aztec Indian Healing Clay

Hey Scholars! In an earlier post I discussed how my face has been breaking out and what I am using to help remedy the situation. I currently use a couple of different masks to help clear my skin. For the past several months there is only one mask I use. I use Aztec Indian Healing Clay and Apple Cider Vinegar. It has been said that Cleopatra used clay in her beauty regimen.

The Ingredients:

1 Tablespoon Aztec Indian Healing Clay and Apple Cider Vinegar
1 Tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar

The Process:

In a small glass bowl mix together the clay and the ACV until a paste consistency is achieved. Apply to face for 5-10 minutes for sensitive/delicate skin or 15-20 minutes for normal skin. As the mask dries, you will feel a tightening and/or a pulling sensation, this is the mask working its magic to remove dirt and impurities from your pores. Afterwards rinse with warm water. I like to rinse the mask off in the shower because it gets a little messy.

The Results:

I am satisfied with how this mask works on my face. I have noticed a difference in the way my skin looks and feels.

Fruit and Water Combinations: Total Deliciousness!

Hey scholars! According to medical studies, everyone should drink about eight glasses of water per day. Water is a vital component to our bodies functioning properly; every system depends on water to carry out their duties. It makes up sixty percent of our body weight. Even with knowing all of this, trying to drink so much water everyday can be really hard to do. Sometimes I do not want to drink strictly water because I need something with some flavor to it. When I do drink water, I do not come close to getting eight glasses per day. So in order to help make this daily goal achievable I cut up fruit and place them in a pitcher. By adding fruit in my water, it makes me want to drink more water. The fruit gives the water a nice, refreshing taste. The fun part of this is that whichever fruit(s) you like you can put them into your water.

Some of my favorite combinations include: Strawberry, Mango, and Peaches (in the picture below); Strawberry and Kiwi; Lemon and Lime; Lemon, Cucumber, and Mint Leaves; Orange and Pineapple; Lime and Strawberry; Lemon and Strawberry, the list goes on and on. Although I use a regular pitcher, there are other methods of infusing fruit with water such using a fruit infusion pitcher made especially for infusing fruit into beverages.

Also, mason jars are great for infusing fruit into water.

Gels and Pastes Oh My!

Hey Scholars! I admit that I am a product junkie. In my collection, I have many different products for many different things. I have collected a few gels for my edges, braid/twist outs as well as gels for wash and gos. Currently, I have five different gels in my collection that I have come to love for any style I choose to wear my hair in.
When my hair was relaxed I used Let's Jam gels on my hair. Now that I am natural I still use some of the products in this line. I especially like the Mega Hold Styling Gel because it does not flake or cause itchiness. I love it for my edges. My edges are unruly and this gel does a great job smoothing them down without having to use a lot to keep them down.

I also have Curls Passion fruit Curl Control Paste. There are no Sulfates, Silicones  Parabens, Mineral or Petroleum oil. Although this paste is a little on the heavy side, it does not weigh my hair down or cause flakiness or itchiness. I have only used this gel on my edges so I am not sure how it is on braid/twist outs; the reviews I have seen have been mixed.

I have two different EcoStyler gels in my collection. I currently use the Pink gel with a firmness hold of 8 and the Moroccan Argan Oil gel with a firmness hold of 10. Although it has a firm hold it works well with braids and twists. I have been happy with this gel since it came in my March 2013 CurlKit.

The EcoStyler Moroccan Argan Oil gel is my favorite. I use it for my edges as well as a styler when I twist or braid my hair.

Last but not least I use Jamaican Mango and Lime Locking Gel. I use this when I go to my protective style of twists using Marley Braid hair. What I love about this gel is that it does not cause build up and a little goes a long way.

On YouTube, MahoganyCurls© has posted a review about the gels in the EcoStyler line. Click here to check it out.

Facial Products

Hey scholars! It's been awhile since my last post. Now that the semester is over I will have more time to post. As of late (the last couple of weeks) my face has been breaking out quite frequently. I guess it is due to the stress of grad school and making sure my final papers, projects and exams are to the best of my abilities. This post is about my facial regimen. My skin tends to get tired of the same old routine pretty quickly so I make sure that I keep a couple of different cleansers, toners/astringents and moisturizers on hand. My skin type is oily and sensitive.

My routine for my sensitive skin consists of Simple's Skincare products. I use the moisturizing Facial Wash, the Soothing Facial Toner and the Replenishing  Rich Moisturizer. I love this product line because it is gentle and is packed with vitamin B5 and has no harsh dyes, perfumes, or irritants. I keep this line in stock. However, with my recent breakouts, I have put these products aside and use products that combat acne specifically.

The products I use to clear up my skin are not a part of a line. i had to find what works and sometimes that means choosing a products here and there from different lines. I have found that there may be one or two products that work but not the entire line. So why waste money if you're not going to use all the products. For my cleansers I use Noxema's The Original Deep Cleansing Cream with Eucalyptus Oil and Neutrogena's Deep Clean Cleanser/Mask.

I tone my face with Stridex Single-Step Acne Control Pads and Sea Breeze Astringent (or the Store brand-depending on price and budget!).

When I moisturize I use Simple's Replenishing  Rich Moisturizer. I use it night and day.

Travel Bucket List

Hey scholars, I am in the process of renewing my passport. I cannot believe it has been ten years since I got it. Thinking back to when I...
